Nicholas Burgess is a Senior Project Engineer with the Deep Carbon Reduction Group.  Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Burgess served as an IoT Building Engineer for a start-up focusing on electrifying homes in the greater New York area, where he led IoT Heat Pump strategy and execution. Prior to that, as a Data Acquisition Engineer at Carbon Lighthouse, he spearheaded the company strategy for IoT Edge devices interfacing with building automation systems as well as led multiple sensor deployments in commercial real estate across the country.

Mr. Burgess has extensive experience in building mechanical systems, data analysis, software engineering and sensor deployment.  The focus of his career has been the improvement of energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and air quality in the built environment, with a particular focus on new digital technologies for existing buildings. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University.  He is a SmartScore AP and is certified with Niagara 4 and SkySpark.

Fun Fact: Nick was raised with a strong environmental ethos, with his father active in community land trusts and environmental cleanup. Nick is continuing this tradition at DCRG and in his local community garden, where he works to make beautiful green spaces in Brooklyn. Nick loves working outside with his hands, building furniture and planting trees.
